In order to mount your Dev Kit to the Smart Mooring, you’ll need to open the metal casket which provides the mechanical strength to hold the system together. You’ll need the 4 mm hex wrench that comes in the Dev Kit accessory box.

  1. Using the 4 mm hex wrench, loosen all 8 of the screws holding the casket together. Carefully separate the casket halves, placing each half on a stable surface. Inside, there will be either jumpers or dummy plugs, as shown below.

<aside> 📝 The screws are captive and won’t back all the way when fully loosened.

  2. Install one of the mounting brackets to the caskets using the 2 M6 screws and washers provided in the Dev Kit accessory box. Hand tighten. You’ll add the second bracket when you’re ready to mount your integrated sensor.

  3. Disconnect the Bristlemouth dummy plugs or jumpers by rotating them counterclockwise. The grooves should provide enough torque to rotate them by hand, but they can be rotated gently using pliers if necessary.

  4. Add the 400 mm Bristlemouth jumpers to the Smart Mooring cable terminators in place of the cables or dummy plugs you just removed.

The jumpers have threaded gold-plated conductors that are corrosion resistant but softer. Take care not to cross-thread the conductors.

  5. Pull the loose jumper ends through the mounting bracket opening. Check that there are no jumpers or sensor components that could be compressed between the halves of the metal caskets.

<aside> ⚠️ If there are two pairs of jumpers, keep each pair of jumpers together. Don’t mix them up.

  6. Mate both of the metal caskets halves and compress using the captive screws.

<aside> 📝 You may need to compress both halves with some bodyweight. Don’t rely on the screws to compress the halves entirely; they may not be strong enough and can break.

  7. Attach the loose Bristlemouth jumpers to the ports on the Dev Kit’s top cap. Keep the pairs together, but it doesn’t matter which port.

  8. Place the Dev Kit on the mounting bracket and make sure all the cables and the locking cords are in the correct position and safe from being compressed.

  9. Attach the Dev Kit onto the mounting bracket using the 4 provided screws.

  10. Add the protective boot over the Dev Kit’s top cap and secure with screws and ties (optional).
